About Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

This years ball directive was to create a theme full of fun and festivity. Our Client brief was to reproduce with a twist the classic movie magic and story telling magic that is Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate factory". The custom build for the events was loosely based around the original movie featuring the delightful 'Gene Wilder'. Modern touch's were taken from the Johnny Depp version to update the event with a slightly more quirky twist!

The design work began around the center pieces and worked it way out from there. Each centrepiece was hand cut and painted. The mushrooms and candy canes were placed into box's dressed as liquorice all-sorts filled with candy and the Large candy cane trees were used to bring the height of the roof down and the eye upwards.

A Center Stage 'green stage' was used for the entertainment with a Giant mushroom and smaller ones that could be sat on by the kids and the Oompa Loompas. Spread around the each corner of the stage were giant lolly-pops and edible flowers for guests to "pick" when they wanted.

The roof was decked out with melting candy and chocolate cut-outs allowing us to bring the roof height down and the eye up. They were painted on both sides to allow for effect from two ends of the room. They were bright, quirky objects that gave a slighty skewed appeal to the room.

The main stage was dressed using a screen as a backdrop. The vision was a doctored version of the modern movie version with that classic celluloid moment of the chocolate river that we all know so well. The river flowed onto the stage and under the Blue Boat!! The vision was stilled but the river continued to flow with some clever tricks!

The entertainment was of course the Oompa Loompas and the kids Veruca Salt, Augustus Glupp and Charlie of course. Singing and dancing through the famous songs of Charlie and the chocolate factory.. The guests were lead in by Willy Wonka himself, unlocking the gates of the Wonka chocolate factory to the tune the 'candy man' down the 'green' carpet.

The main act had Willy Wonka sing "Pure imagination" then the Oompa Loompas did the classic "Oompa Loompa song" dancing and interacting with the crowd.

It was a naughty but nice evening of colour, imagery and fun!! "Thats what you get when you gobble down sweets".
